The Project……

I thought I would finally share some of those 'dreaded' craft room project pictures.   NO, not 100% done, but have come such a long way.

Teri left me a comment asking if I was finished moving my craft stuff.  LOL, Teri that is gonna take days, lol.

Alright, let me prepare the 'canvas' if you will…… our house is over 105 years old.  Over the years additions were added, the sunroom for example was added in the 50's I think.  Anyway,  the former owner had turned an enclosed back porch and turned it into his office.  As is typical men fashion,  his handiman did a fast & cheap job.  I didn't really take a picture of the room before from the very beginning, but this should give you an idea.

View from the back door.  The wall at the end is the original outside wall (hence the little window).  When we took the paneling down, I painted it and then we had the rain.  So that wall is not done yet, until we are 100% sure that the roof leak is fixed.

The slat wall on the right side was previously on the other wall (2 4×6 sheets) but I like to have everything within reach so had Chriss cut it down length wise.

The work top is fine, except that is not how I had envisioned the 'island', but since this tabletop was almost the cause of a divorce, I let it go.  It's better than no work space.  I'll either paint the bare wood or I might make some curtains which would look nice and hide the iris carts.

Another view.  You see what makes any remodel project a test of matrimony is that my husband does not believe in doing any prep-work.  Matter of fact, when he started tearing the paneling out along with the sheets of styrofoam insulation, he didn't cover anything.  Stuff was still in the room covered with that stuff.   He also doesn't get his tools and supplies needed together before he starts.  Drives me crazy!

This view is after I cleared out the tools no longer needed.  Chriss will stumble over stuff instead of putting it back where it belongs (you know…so he can find it for the next time he needs it.)

This first part of the work table is actually going to be the office part.  Desktop computer, printers, etc.

The other half of the work table is designated for my crafts.

We'll cut another piece of slatwall to cover the former exterior wall, which will cover the little window (which is actually a storage/stairwell under the stairs) plus give me more storage via hooks or shelves.  I'll also finish the door frame after the slatwall is up.

The back half of the work table (by the little window) is the craft area.  The other side will be the 'office' part where the desktop and printers, etc. will go.  Oops repeating myself here.

OMG, I've said it before and I'll say it again.  You want something done, do it yourself.  (Especially during hunting season)

I am in LOVE with this tool.  Why?  It's not has heavy as the big yellow one (which you can see in the first picture) and look what I did Friday with this bad baby:

So, I primed that nasty ole paneling – 2 coats, then it got 2 coats of the paint.

Then I took my new best friend and framed all of the left wall.  Then I caulked it (again, previous owner did not built a frame to nail the paneling to, instead just nailed it to the wall so the wall is kind of not straight – who cares, right?)

I've known how to use the Radial Arm Saw but was still so damn proud of this mitered corner.  And guess what… no yelling, no cussing, just me grunting like Tim the Toolman Taylor (no seriously, I did)

Not bad, huh?  I think it looks awesome, kinda like country cottage wood walls.  Hey anything is better than what it was.

The next pics are of the work top with me attempting to move stuff back in.  Eventually I will have carpet out there.  it's just warmer and easier to clean I think.  Just run the vacuum cleaner.   The work table got christened last night by Emma and myself.  It was so nice to have enough room for her and I to sit side by side and still have plenty of counter space.

Now, how long will it take me to move stuff in here?  I don't know, you take a guess but remember that I still have more crafts in upstairs guest bedroom.

I now know how to use pretty much every power tool and let me tell you, I have some great projects planned.  Although those will have to wait until after the holidays.  Hoping to be moved in by next weekend which will allow me to put up at least 3 of the 8 christmas trees.

You can't even see all the mess BEHIND the desk. And there's more in the closet too….. days….it'll take days I tell ya!

I hope you enjoyed this pictorial journey into my weekend.  My fingers and hands are swollen from all the gripping – paint brush, nailgun, etc…. today I'm going to do the laundry, and work on a project for tomorrow's Sweet Pea Stamps post.  Oh hey, I also got my house cleaned.  Not a deep cleaning clean, but clean…. yippee!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  Until tomorrow!  Thanks for stopping by.

Woah missus! What a job – you could put some builders out of business with that handiwork!!
I love working with wood, don't get much chance these days sadly. Got myself an 'O' Level (old fashioned english grades here) at school for woodwork and technical drawing, so I like to think I am handy round the house too!
Very difficult getting things straight here too, the house was built in the 1790's, and still has the original roof timbers. Everything is buckled and bowed, not a straight line anywhere!!
Nightmare putting up shelves and pictures!! LOL
You go rest those wee mitts now. Mine have just about recovered from stripping the hall. Still haven't finished the paint job – me bad!!
    Hugs,
    Teri xx

I am inspired!  Great job.   I have been waiting for my husband to make a craft room in the basement for me, but I think I might have to get started on it myself.

    Micki,

Looks great!! It's a lot different from the last time I seen it.  Looks like you got
tons of room now.  It's amazing what you can do if you set your mind to it and
don't need the men to help!! Ha!
When I get ready to do the inside of the house I'll give you a call!!  Ha!Ha!

YOU. ARE. MY. HERO. Your mitered corner is poifect dahlink!! Your new craft space is most excellent, I love the height of it. As for power tools, I can use a drill lol. I am scared of the miter saw and want a scroll saw lol. Teach me Yoda :)
