Of Mice and…..

2014 June 9

Sorry about the weird title, but that is all that kept popping into my head as I finished a project I had started on weeks (if not months) ago.

As you can see, I altered a couple of mice traps and even one larger rat trap!  Friends had shared this photo on my Facebook wall:

You can see the full tutorial at  Suzys Artsy Crafty Sitcom.  Well, I had to give that a try, so out I went and bought a pack of mousetraps.  4 in a pack and then I saw a rattrap which is a lot bigger, so I promptly got one of those too.

AlteredNoteDisplay_MG_0002_0327After painting and sanding them, I added stenciling.  Still attempting to use up old stickers and rub-ons, I added some of each, a little stamping followed by sealing it all with Glue ‘n Seal.

Binder clips work great to keep the trap open.  Beware of the rattrap, although a large binder clip will keep it open, if it snaps shut – THAT one will hurt!

The retractable craft pick was perfect to hold the small stickers in place while I was applying glue over them.  (These stickers were so old that there was no “stick” left Smile).

First up, the rat trap:

Now to the mousetraps:

I will admit that it was a little more challenging to get the stencils to work because of the hinge being in the way and as is typical for me, I went over board – adding too much.  But I still think they will make great note holders. The mousetraps will be magnetic since they are so light, but the rat trap is heavier so hubby is going to drill router a keyhole in the back.  I was also thinking of painting a 1”x4” and nailing two or three of the mousetraps on and then hanging the board on the wall……decisions, decisions!  Found some heavy duty magnet strips which worked perfectly on all of the traps.  Either way, I’m thrilled that I got these finally done!!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Even though I was not feeling good and didn’t get to do some of the housework I had planned on, I did accomplish this.  Oh and the grocery shopping, so hey, I’m good Winking smile.

Until next time…..
