When it rains it pours….

2012 July 16

When it pours

oh we could only wish for a downpour of rain since we are 12+ inches behind for the year and with another major heat wave predicted our drought is destined to continue.

Saturday was Gracy’s birthday party after which Miss Abby came home with us.  Miss Gracy got to go to the Movies to see Brave in 3D.  According to Gracy, it’s “an excellent movie”.  Sunday I got to do a little playing in my craft room and decided to create two art journal pages.  I had so many ideas in my head but in the end I just worked on my art journal.

When it pours

Ok, if you are wanting to know how I decided what to create – sorry, had no clue except that I wanted to use some of the old hoarded supplies, in particular gaffer  & paper tape.

After spritzing my page with Dylusions Ink Sprays, I randomly applied 7Gypsies Harlequin Gaffer Tape,  some paper tape from Me & My Big Ideas (also retired) along with Tissue Tape.

Then I covered it all with a light coat of Blank Canvas paint:

And then I was at a stand still…. until Sunday morning.  Added more Dylusions Ink Sprays, then decided to use  this fun and funky gal from  Dyan Reaveley’s stamp set Pure Rainbow, which I stamped onto white card stock and colored with watercolor crayons.  Why crayons?  Oh because I’ve got ‘em and haven’t pulled them out in a long while.  (I’m trying to be versatile and use all the different mediums instead of getting stuck with just one which I’m so notorious for doing Smile)

Yup, you can tell I haven’t played with watercolor crayons in a while… anyway, cut the image out and slapped her onto my page with multi medium.   And all I could think of while looking at the page was the old saying of “when it rains it pours” and I went with it.

I stamped the umbrella on some leftover inked tag and used a green Souffle 3D pen to fill in the bubbles and then added the dots.

Of course it was after I had the image glued down that I decided the page needed more color which is why you’ll see spots of color on the stamped image.   I free hand wrote the quote and used a graphite stick around the image which I smeared with my finger.  Adds such a great shadow.  I remembered I had some old Cloud 9 Design Teardrop Rain Dots which were added randomly all over the page.

The border is free hand drawn with a black Pitt marker.  The white is Copic Opaque White which seemed to work best.  I tried Sharpie Poster Paint, but it didn’t cover very well.  As a final step I sealed the whole page with Multi Medium, which kind of smeared the paint but I kind of like the end result.  I was going to say that it was planned for the ink to smear, but after watching Donna Downey’s videos, I’m going to borrow her phrases of “I’m going with it” Smile.

When it pours[17]

The page is imperfect and messy and colorful and has lots of layers and I absolutely love it – even my crappy hand writing!

Oh and guess what the challenge is at Simon Says Stamp and Show ?  It’s “No Rules” basically Anything Goes– to just have fun.  PERFECT…..

Anything Goes is the theme over at That Craft Place, so I’ll submit this there too!

I’ll share the other page tomorrow.   I’m really starting to love art journaling.  If you haven’t tried it yet, break out your supplies, grab and old book or notebook and just play.  It’s fun!

Until next time….. oh wait, gotta share this song.  OMG, it’s on a commercial and it brought back such memories of me growing up in Germany.  Not to mention that it should be my theme song next time I visit my  family in New York (Rockland County).

A very ink stained

Supplies Used:

7Gypsies Gaffer Tape, Copper Willow Tape by Me & My Big Ideas & Cloud 9 Design Teardrop Dots are discontinued.

    This looks like you did it on glass!  or maybe it's just me.  LOVE your page!!  That girl and her bumbershoot are way cool!  Your hand drawn border is exceptional, along with your raindrops.  Will come back when I shouldn't be in bed and check out your video.  Wishing us both some much needed rain.  Mr Wonderful lives 6 miles north and he got 1/2" on Saturday night.  I was trying to read on the back deck and the wind kicked up and misted me pretty good — so refreshing.  Of course, I come home and there hasn't been so much as a drop.  {sigh}

Beautiful page, so much great detail and texture in the finishes.  Oh, and it's rained almost non-stop for 3 months here, you're welcome to some of our rain! :)  Thanks so much for joining us for this week's Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge!
