Went a little star crazy

2012 July 2

trying to use up some star eyelets and I do believe I over did it.  I decided to use an old House Mouse Patriotic Wrap stamp from Stampabilities and almost didn’t finish it.  But I did…

Since I haven’t done much coloring with my copics, I really had some major issues with coloring and bleeding of the red ink.  Oh and I didn’t even try to color around the stars, as you can see in the picture below.

However instead of throwing it away, I grabbed my Copic Opaque White and a small brush to fix where I went outside the lines.  I snapped a picture while the Opaque White was still wet which worked great to show you.  Once it dried, you can not see the errors at all.

I also used the Opaque White to add some highlights to the red of the flag.  The mice were first colored with copics, but then I took colored pencils to add some highlight to the fur.  I really need to practice coloring fur.  For the stars I used a yellow Soufflé pen which didn’t turn out as well as I had expected it would.  But it is what it is.

The “Happy 4th of July” was generated on my PC then printed out onto Tag Board.  Oh I should also mention that I used Tag Board as my card base.  The papers are from The Paper Studio (aka Hobby Lobby) which I love but can not find them online so can’t provide a link.

Anyhoo, considering all the bleed areas and really not liking my coloring, this image/card turned out ok.  With the 4th only days away, there are lots of challenges this card will be entered into:

First of…..drum roll please…. I followed a sketch (woohoo, it really is getting easier):

This sketch is from Fetch A Sketch and worked great with the papers.

I’m also entering this card into the following challenges:

Don’t forget to check the eP blog tomorrow as the winner from each blog will be announced.  It’s supposed to stay in the 100’s, which means we will be staying inside as much as possible.  How about you?

That’s it for me tonight.  Thanks for stopping by.  I’ll have another 4th of July card to share tomorrow evening…. until then!

Love this Micki!  So glad you showed the bleeding too, I thought that happened to me because I was doing something wrong.

Typing from my cousin's iPad where I am patiently waiting for her to feed me.  It almost looks like you flipped out with them stars. Card is cute for having fur balls on it.  Happy Independence Day!

Red copics definitely WANT to bleed.  One trick I discovered was to keep my heat tool handy along with the colorless marker.  Use the colorless marker to push the unwanted ink back into its own area and then quickly zap the area with the heat tool to dry the colorless marker solution.  It's when it's wet that it bleeds back across.  Red sometimes takes several push/heat steps to clean up.  LOVE how you used the Opaque White to add highlights 😉

love it!! I love how you saved it too. I colour with promarkers mostly and the reds in those are real juicy too, they nearly always bleed out the lines!

Hi Micki!  Oh my gosh, never enough stars and it works for your card after all – I get such a happy feeling looking at it and smiling at the little mice enjoying the festivities.  I also am happy you weren't discouraged when you had the bleed of the Copics. I have that issue too and sometimes I can fix it and sometimes not, your fix truly worked!  A delightful card and a great take on our challenge over at Opus Gluei!  Thank you so much for sharing with us and I hope that you c'mon over again!
