Under the Sea…..

2010 August 3

Hi everyone,

Been checking out the Sweet Pea Stamps DT blog?  Yes?  Well then you probably saw this little mermaid:

This is Elaine Coxs' White Leaf Mermaid from Sweet Pea Stamps.  I remembered that I had this ocean themed quad paper by Deandra Berry from Stampington & Co. and decided to play with this little mermaid.

She is stamped onto Neenah Millstone super smooth card stock, then colored with Copics.  I pulled out all the arsenal for this one, lol… actually it's all about having fun, right?  So I used my gray Prismacolor markers for the rock.  I wanted to create a watery background which I love to create using my Twinkling H2O's.  For a little dazzle, I used some Spica glitter pens on the vines, leaves and the fish.  I wanted to create a watery illusion and decided  to give Viva Decor's Glass Effect Gel a try.    It's meant to be used on any transparent surface, but it worked awesome on the colored panel.  I just used a spatula to smooth the gel (unevenly) across the whole panel.  I was a little concerned because the panel curled as it was drying, but once dry it relaxed again and the best part??  It only took an hour to dry.  I tell you guys….. any of Viva Decor's products are just plain awesome.  I can't wait for Daisy with eclectic Paperie to get it in the store!  I could have hugged the Viva Decor gals when they handed me a couple of samples.  Here's an attempt to show the gloss:

For some added texture I 'shaved' some thin card stock which I adhered under the image panel.

which I just cut to size.  The ribbons are from Heidi Grace Designs called Reagan's Closet.

I have so much fun playing with these magical & whimsical stamps from Sweet Pea Stamps.  They truly inspire me to experiment and I do want to point out that I didn't even mention all the screw-ups I made on this card…. lol….  however, if you read the Sweet Pea Stamps DT blog, I did give a hint there.

Here's another look at the card:

I hope you enjoyed her as much as I did. Thanks so much for stopping by and remember to have fun and experiment when you craft.

And after making my rounds in the challenge blog circuit, this card fits the following challenges:

Aly's Sunday Challenge:  Under The Sea

Bunny Zoe's Crafts:  Summer Days

Crafty Calendar Challenge:  Summer

oohh and I came across this challenge blog:  Going Grey with Scrap-Creations:  Anything Goes.

Until next time….
